Discuss one "observation" area that you would like to improve on for your teacher evaluation. | I forgot to blog yesterday. John Lennon once sang, "Life is just what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." Sometimes I feel like he's singing directly to me. You have a to-do list, and then you have a million other things that distract you from the to-do list. |
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes those distractions are awesome and lead to further developments. It's simply the nature of my role here because my role is a conglomeration of many things. I am both admin and teacher. I get to manage the huge project that is our digital transformation, and I get to spend time in classrooms developing the awesomeness of our staff and students. In between, I do whatever needs to be done to make our district excellent and systems-oriented. It's awesome and exciting and time consuming.
Something that would definitely help me improve would be a better foundation in technical knowledge of technology systems. I need just enough to be able to make decisions about infrastructure and networks but no so much that I can fix things. I never want to be able to fix things. If I can repair or install, then I become a repair-woman and not an instructional specialist. At the same time, we're currently in the process of installing and developing systems for our Apple registration. If I had better technical knowledge of Apple servers and the registration and purchasing process, I would be able to make quick decisions. Because I don't, I'm spending time researching and configuring. That's time spent that I could be in classrooms or finding instructional resources.

I like this quote by Henry Ford because it reminds me to be solutions-based instead of problems-based. I've added technical expertise to my growth plan so that I can develop that knowledge in order to make better-informed decisions on behalf of my stakeholders. There are several conferences that I can attend and I'll be working closely with QNS to learn as much as possible about what they do and why they have to do it. I still won't be able to repair anything, but I will be able to make the right decisions about what needs to be replaced and the right way to replace it. |
